Whats On My DVR? Part 1

Every so often I am going to fill you in with what I have been DVRing. I don't think that's a real word, but my goal is to make it one.

In my opinion, one of the best travel shows out there for guys is "Dhani Tackles The Globe". I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's actually very entertaining.

Here is the premise, for those who don't know. Dhani Jones, a current NFL linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals (formerly a NY Giant) travels the globe to learn about different cultures. The catch is that everywhere he travels he learns the national sport. He spends about a week in each place practicing for the main event, while at the same time exploring the culture.

The show is new, so there are only a few episodes. So far he has learned :

* Muay Thai in Thailand

* Schwingen in Switzerland

* Rugby in England

* Dragon Boat Racing in Singapore

* Pelota in the Basque region of Spain

Dhani is very charasmatic and it is entertaining to watch him interact with the locals. He is also a very good athlete and has managed to learn and compete in almost all of the sports. This weeks episode was the first time that he struggled learning a sport.

Pelota, also called Jai Halai, is a game of great skill, that children start practicing from a very young age. It involves hurling a solid ball upwards of 200 mph against a wall. Dhani managed to win his match, with great help from his partner, but never seemed to catch on.

It is quite amazing to see how physically demanding these sports are. Watching an NFL player struggle to keep up with the training shows you just how tough it really is.

If you are a fan of travel shows and haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it. It's on Monday nights at 9pm on the Travel Channel.

Check it out and enjoy.

  1. Ever see the Jackass episode where Johnny Knoxville and Steve-o stand against the wall while professionals hurl oranges at them with these things? Insane...
