Question of the Day - 5

Wow, not a single comment yet! Either the question was too hard, not fun, or you are all too self conscious to admit to your past. Regardless, we will move forward with our Questions.

Since #4 was obviously not a hit, I will make today's a little easier. Hopefully that will generate some more comments.

What is your favorite game you played as a child?
You can choose board, video, or physical games.

I remember so many great games as a kid. Its actually kind of hard for me to pick one. Since I am having a hard time narrowing down my favorite, I will just talk about one of my favorites. I think its unique, and I am not even sure if it has a name.

I call it Stair Ball. Creative right? The game is generally played with two people. The more people you have, the harder it is to play. Which makes it good to play when there aren't too many people around.

The game revolves around the rules of baseball, with a twist of course. Since you only have two people, you obviously can't play all the positions, so you improvise. One person is the "batter" and the other is the defense.

The batter takes the ball (generally a tennis ball, but you can use any type of bouncy ball to play) and throws it against the stairs. The ball will ricochet out into the field, where the defense is waiting. If the ball is caught on the fly, the batter is out. If it lands, then you would get a base hit. How many bases you get per hit is based on a pregame selection of markers to determine how far a ball must land to equate a single, double, triple, or home run.

The game continues for as many innings as you would like. Not too complicated of a game, but fun nonetheless. I think games like that have kind of vanished from our society, with the continuous inventions of new technology. What a shame. I miss the simple days.

Anyone wanna play some stair ball? Here is a helpful hint for anyone who wants to play: Aim for the point of the stairs, as this will give you the largest bounce.

What games did you guys like?

Question of the Day - 4

Its that time again, Question of the Day time!! Sorry I haven't had a lot of time to blog lately. But I promised to have some new ones coming up. I'm enjoying your comments. But you guys should sign your comments, especially the person who told me to grow a set. Seems like they should take their own advice.

Melissa (AKA Mush) asked me to post a "thinker" question today, so I am gonna try to appease her. She likes to throw tantrums. ("But Moooom, I wannnna gooo shopping!") Sorry, that was a little inside joke, kinda rude, but funny for me.

You guys got it easy, since you can pick and choose which questions you want to answer, but I have to answer them all, or else it would be stupid. Ok enough stalling. Here it comes...

If you could go back to a moment in your life and relive it,
good or bad, what would it be and why?

This is a question that I have been pondering for a few days, probably since the start of the Question of the Day series. And I finally came up with an answer.

I was hoping that I would want to relive a good time, but when it came down to it, it wasn't meant to be. I would want to relive a moment in my life, that I think shaped the way I live my life to this day.

I can't remember how old I was, but I was young. It was a Sunday morning and I was attending Hebrew School in Scarsdale. (Please save your Jew jokes till later) I remember feeling kind of crappy that morning, but, my mom wasn't buying it. She knew I hated going, cause the kids were all snobby and I really didn't fit in. After grabbing a quick breakfast with my dad, it was off to school for the morning.

There I was, sitting in the back of the crowded class, when it happened. I puked all over my desk. Nasty, I know! And very embarrassing too, especially since I was an outsider to begin with. Needless to say, I was really embarrassed by what had happened. I had become "that kid"!

I can't be positive, but I feel like that set off a chain of events that always gave me a subconscious terror of embarrassing myself in front of my peers. This came to a head in 7th grade when I had "Schoolophobia". I was afraid to go to school, seriously!! It lasted for quite some time and was a really tough time in my life. But more on that at another time.

So there you have it, my moment I would like to relive. I know you're not supposed to live with regrets, but I wish that that moment never happened. I hope you appreciate my honesty and can share some of your own stories. Remember, good or bad, its not a pity fest. And don't worry what people will say. This is about you, not them.

~Joshua

Question of the Day - 3

I am very proud of you guys, you are finally catching on. Isn't it more fun this way? Its amazing how many people would wish for more money. I don't blame you, its pretty much the driving factor for most people.

Even though we had a good turn out on that question, Angel found it to be too thought provoking. And he was ashamed to admit he wanted money. Shames on you Angel! You're just like everyone else.

I thought that that was an easy question, but apparently not for everyone. So here is a topic that has been widely discussed at SDH:

Is it okay for a guy to get a manicure?
How about a pedicure? Nail polish?

This one is easy for me to answer. For anyone who knows me, they know I love getting manicures. I have also gotten a pedicure or two in my life. I see absolutely nothing wrong with a guy taking care of himself. The fact that it is seen as a female act, is a false constraint that we have placed upon it. The reality is, it is good to take care of you nails. It is also very relaxing and soothing to have someone take care of you for awhile. And when it comes to polish, I am all for that as well. Supposedly I went through a polish "phase". When the truth is, if I had the time and the money to keep it up, I would probably still be wearing black nail polish. It really freaks people out for no reason. I am the same person with or without polish, but some people can't see through that. I think we really need to open our minds and become more accepting of things. Remember, "You can't judge a book by its cover."

What do you guys think?

Question of the Day - 2

I never thought it would be this hard to choose a question, there are so many great things out there to discuss. Thankfully, there will be more days, and more questions.

Lets ease ourselves into this process with a fairly simple question:

If you had the opportunity to have three wishes granted,
what would they be? Why?

I'm sure we have all had this question posed to us at one point in our lives, but I think our answers can change on a daily basis.

This is what I would wish for:

My first wish would have to be for money. Not in a selfish, spoiled kind of way. I just wish I had enough money to live comfortably. I would like to be able to afford to do all the things that I want and spend my days doing things that make me happy. It would be nice to be able to afford to see the people who mean so much to me, even when they do not live close by.

That leads me to my second wish. I wish I could be closer to my family, especially my nieces. I have three beautiful nieces, that live in Oklahoma. The youngest are twins, born November 2007, and I have still yet had a chance to meet them. I wish I could be a bigger part of their lives, and them mine. I come from a small family and wish that we could all spend more time together.

My third wish is a little more obscure than the first two. I wish I appreciated life more. Too often in life, we get caught up on the little details and often take for granted everything that we have going for us. I think that that would be the most amazing feeling, to really be able to appreciate. Imagine waking up and being grateful for another day, a warm bed, a job, a family. Think about all the things that we have that we really don't appreciate, and think about what it would be like to lose them. Its kind of freaky to think about how unappreciative we actually are.

I look forward to hearing what you have to say. Take a few minutes and think about what you really want, and share it with us. You might be suprised by what people would wish for, or even what you yourself would wish for.

Question of the Day

I want to try a new project on here, but it is going to require some participation. At the bottom of each blog, there is a little comment button. I need you to start hitting that and making some comments, so that I can know how I am doing.

All that being said, I am gonna start a new blog topic, "Question of the Day". In these blogs I am going to pose a question to you all for discussion in the comment section. They will vary depending on my mood. As always, if you have any ideas, you can e-mail me at JBrand2282@gmail.com and tell me what you would like to discuss.

I am going to steal my first question from a Z100 topic from a few days ago. It has two parts, so feel free to comment on either or both.

Is it okay for a guy to ask another guy
what type of cologne he is wearing?

What about a woman asking a woman
what type of perfume she is wearing?

Post your thoughts. I am curious what you all think about this. I will start you off with my comments:

I admit that it may be awkward for a man to ask another man what type of cologne he is wearing if they do not know each other. It can often give the wrong impression. That seems to be more a matter of our own insecurities though. As is the case with Stoicism (discussed in an earlier blog), we are only effected by that which we allow to effect us. If you do not mean it to be sexual in nature, it cannot be sexual. I have asked friends the question though, and it was a lot less awkward. In fact, GP asked me the other day what I was wearing because "You smell good today." I think its a complete non-issue for women, which seems to be a completely unfair cultural bias that we created.

Here is a helpful hint on how to ask another man what cologne he is wearing. There is a new trend that can be used, ask your question and follow up with "No Homo." You can also lead with that as well. Both are acceptable behaviors for men.

Anyway, lets get this going strong. Comment, comment, comment!

TOMS Shoes

Any of you guys see that commercial for AT&T cell phone service with the guy who donates shoes to needy children?

Men's Element Design

Well, after seeing it on TV, I was curious to know if that was a legit company. And, it is.

From the Toms Shoes website:

One for One

TOMS Shoes was founded on a simple premise: For every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need. One for One. Using the purchasing power of individuals to benefit the greater good is what we're all about.

Our Story

In 2006 an American traveler, Blake Mycoskie, befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created a company that would match every pair of shoes sold with a pair given to a child in need. One for One. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by caring TOMS customers.

Since our beginning, TOMS has given over 140,000* pairs of shoes to children in need through the One for One model. Because of your support, TOMS plans to give over 300,000 pairs of shoes to children in need around the world in 2009.

Our ongoing community events and Shoe Drop Tours allow TOMS supporters and enthusiasts to be part of our One for One movement. Join us.

Why shoes?

Most children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at play, doing chores or just getting around, these children are at risk.

Walking is often the primary mode of transportation in developing countries. Children can walk for miles to get food, water, shelter and medical help. Wearing shoes literally enables them to walk distances that aren't possible barefoot.

Wearing shoes prevents feet from getting cuts and sores on unsafe roads and from contaminated soil. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are dangerous when wounds become infected. The leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted parasites which penetrate the skin through open sores. Wearing shoes can prevent this and the risk of amputation.

Many times children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the opportunity to realize their potential. There is one simple solution...SHOES.

Four of the planet's six billion people live in conditions inconceivable to many. Lets take a step towards a better tomorrow.

The shoes that they make look different than what I would call a "normal shoe", but they look really comfortable and have a unique style.

Women's Silver Sparkles

I have not ordered a pair yet, but I will shortly. I will let you know my thoughts on the shoes, but regardless, its for a good cause.

So next time you need a new pair of shoes, check out the site and do some good. They make shoes for men, women, and kids...so no excuses!

The Best Toys Ever!!

As you are starting to learn from reading this blog, I am kind of an odd character. But I am cool with that. That's why I am comfortable telling you that I have found the best toys...EVER!!

I can't remember where or when I first came across them, but I feel its time to unveil them to you. Ladies and gentlemen, meet...

Yes, you are seeing what you think you are seeing...Pee & Poo dolls. Guy and Guy have some weird fascination with Pee & Poo (the words, not the toys), so this blog goes out to them.

Created
by Swedish designer Emma Megitt as a Master of Design project at HDK (School of Design and Crafts, Göteborg University). They went on line with their own site shortly afterwards. Within a few weeks tens of thousands of people had visited the site. And although Emma had not seriously thought about producing her two out-of-the-loo-lovelies, she received so many enquiries as to price and delivery time that she went into production.

They also produce Pee & Poo keychains, baby clothes, and t-shirts. If anyone wants to bring me a set of plush Pee & Poo dolls I would love you forever.

PS - I know some of you reading this are thinking, "Oh Man! I need to get those!"

A Great Blog for Music Lovers

This wasn't what I was planning to discuss, but I woke up and found it on my Twitter. Danny Masterson suggested it. (Name Drop...hahah)

Ilistentoeverything.com, an amazing music blog.

I have yet to do a full inspection of the blog, but on my initial skim through, it seems to be a really great blog for people who are interested in learning about new artist. Right now I am currently listening to a mix of the Kings of Leon song - Knocked Up W/ Lyyke Li. What an awesome way to start the morning.

I am certainly no music expert, and I am so far from the pulse of new and good music, that I don't even feel it beating. But it is still a really cool blog. I highly recommend checking it out. I passed it on to Yuhei, hopefully he can do a more thorough write up on it.

Flickr

As you know the website is almost done, but we decided it just wouldn't be an adequate place to display all our pictures. We love being a local joint and want to share our space with you.

Please send me some pics so that we can add them to the Flickr page. I am currently working on organizing and uploading new photos. Your submissions will be a great help to make it unique.

Below is a nice family portrait we took one day after work. I am Mr. Crabby. That's not very nice!

I'd really like to throw up some picture from Varsity Basketball. Also, all you old guys who graduated last year...send us some pics so we don't forget what you look like. That means you Zaza, Panda, Big, Ant, Cardillo, Guy #3. If I forgot you, no offense, I'm old!

But seriously, be a part of the site, send some pics. I hope to hear from you soon.

SoDamHot.com

Warning, Warning, Warning!!

SoDamHot.com is nearly complete. For those of you close to us at the restaurant, you know this project has been a long time coming.

If you already peaked a look at the site, well then jokes on you, cause that is the old site still. The new site is hidden away for private eyes only.

I want to send out a very special thank you to our web designer, and dear friend, Yuhei. He has been working on and off on the site for months now. And all for free! (Well, we consider it part of the payback for the guitar I bought him when I used to be a baller.)

Aside from desiging sick websites, Yuhei is also an avid blogger. Check out his blog at highlark.com. There you will find a very interesting blog on a variety of things, mainly art, music, movies, and games.

Without being a major gush fest for Yuhei, I want to sneak in one last comment. Check out his band, Happy Anarchy (or the band formerly know as Happy Anarchy). They are great. And I don't just say that as a friend, I mean it.

Keep checking back to the blog for more info on the new website. It really does look great. I am sure you will all love it as much as we do.

~Joshua

PS - Be the first to come into SDH and say "I'm a So Dam Blog addict!" and I will hook you up with a free meal.

Jackass Jimmy

Jimmy commented on the Blog "Whats On My DVR - Part 1" reminding me about the great scene from Jackass, where Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O allowed the Jai Alai players to launch oranges at them. So for all of you who missed that episode, check it out on YouTube . Those guys are absolutely insane. Check out the sick welt that they leave on Steve-O's leg.

Thanks to Jimmy for being our very first comment. We ask for your continued support in moving this blog forward.

Relay For Life

Just wanted to take a quick moment before work to remind you all about Cousin Joey's Relay For Life event coming up on May 2, 2009 at Pace University. Joey, along with his fellow TKE brothers, will be walking to raise money to support cancer research.

For those of you not familiar with the event, I pulled this off of their website:

What is Relay For Life?

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.

Teams of people from all walks of life have fun while raising much-needed funds to fight cancer and raise awareness of cancer prevention and treatment.

No matter who you are, there’s a place for you at Relay. To participate, form a team, or dedicate a luminaria at your local American Cancer Society Relay For Life, please call 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit http://www.cancer.org/.

Relay For Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people to:

• Celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight.
• Remember loved ones lost to the disease. At Relay, people who have walked alongside people battling cancer can grieve and find healing.
• Fight Back. We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to the disease.

There is not a required amount of money to raise in order to participate in Relay For Life. The American Cancer Society's recommendation is for each participant to set a personal goal to raise $100. If you raise more, that's even better. If you do not raise $100, you are still welcome to participate. We're glad to have you. The only requirement to participate in Relay For Life is the $10 registration/commitment fee (per person) that is due upon registration. After that, anything you can raise through individual, team, or online fundraising is graciously accepted.

Scott and I agreed to donate all of the tips we get to help support Joey's team. So far we have raised over $300 in donations, but would like to get it to $500 by event time. Stop by the restaurant and donate some money. Every little bit helps.

Remember, cancer can strike even the most healthy of people. Appreciate all the time you have and enjoy your good health. If you know someone who is dealing with cancer, or has in the past, find it in your heart to make a donation.

"The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual." -Vince Lombardi

Earth Day

Just want to take a moment to look at the world we live in today.

While driving in to work today, I happened to notice hundreds of cars parked all along the beautiful grassy areas of Kensico Dam Plaza. After further inspection of what event was taking place that would draw so much traffic, I read the sign:

"Earth Day Celebration - April 19, 2009".

Does anyone else see the irony in this situation?

A Moment of Philisophical Thought

Being only a few days removed from the Jewish holiday of Passover, and having just been introduced to a very interesting blog on Stoicism by Dan, I wanted to take a quick moment to explore our lives in a more meaningful way.

Before you read forward, I need to explain that I am in no way a religious freak. I do not feel that any one religion is better than another. In fact, I like to think that the best religion would be one that would take aspects from all of the world's religions. Do not always accept what you are told to be true and right. Make up your own mind and develop your own sense of spirituality.

In the story of Passover, we encounter the tale of Moses and the burning bush. God (depicted by the burning bush) is explaining to a downtrodden Moses that his path is the right one, and to remain steadfast in his beliefs. Moses has to have faith in his ways and continue to do what might not seem to be the right choice at the time. Moses, with God's help, goes on to free the slaves from Egypt, thus giving us the story of the Haggadah.

What I draw from this tale, every time I reread it is this:

That which was meant to endure cannot be destroyed.

Stoicism leads you in the same direction. One major aspect of the philosophy explains that nothing is bad, which can be turned to good. In essence, everything has a lesson and a purpose. If we take that philosophy to heart, we will always have a positive outlook on life.

We do not live in a world of fantasy. We have harsh realities to deal with on a daily basis. Marcus Aurelius, an avid follower of Stoicism stated:

“Choose not to be harmed and you won’t feel harmed.
Don’t feel harmed and you haven’t been."

In essence, he is explaining that we control our own worlds. If you do not let things effect you, then in actuality, they can't.

At the restaurant I have been introduced to many new lives. I see a lot of people looking at their hardships with negativity. If you take time to turn those problems upside down, you will see that they are merely paths to new enlightenment.

When you are forced to deal with a life altering injury, consider the strength that you have gained from enduring the hours of pain. Remember that learning to walk again allows you to appreciate every step that you take, if only for a moment.

When you appear to lose all your friends because of an unfortunate mishap, consider that true friends do not run from your adversity, rather to it. Maybe they have opened up your world to find truer friends.

When cancer strikes the most joyous of people, the truest of heart, consider it a challenge to overcome and a chance to truly enjoy the lives that we take for granted daily. See that the path that you take to make it through the struggle, shows you that you can conquer all that life places in your way. (My thoughts and prayers remain with you.)

Much more on these thoughts in future blogs. Until then, remember that life is precious, every moment is a blessing, and to treat all people right, even if they do not follow the same philosophy.

As always, with love...

~Joshua

Whats On My DVR? Part 1

Every so often I am going to fill you in with what I have been DVRing. I don't think that's a real word, but my goal is to make it one.

In my opinion, one of the best travel shows out there for guys is "Dhani Tackles The Globe". I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's actually very entertaining.

Here is the premise, for those who don't know. Dhani Jones, a current NFL linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals (formerly a NY Giant) travels the globe to learn about different cultures. The catch is that everywhere he travels he learns the national sport. He spends about a week in each place practicing for the main event, while at the same time exploring the culture.

The show is new, so there are only a few episodes. So far he has learned :

* Muay Thai in Thailand

* Schwingen in Switzerland

* Rugby in England

* Dragon Boat Racing in Singapore

* Pelota in the Basque region of Spain

Dhani is very charasmatic and it is entertaining to watch him interact with the locals. He is also a very good athlete and has managed to learn and compete in almost all of the sports. This weeks episode was the first time that he struggled learning a sport.

Pelota, also called Jai Halai, is a game of great skill, that children start practicing from a very young age. It involves hurling a solid ball upwards of 200 mph against a wall. Dhani managed to win his match, with great help from his partner, but never seemed to catch on.

It is quite amazing to see how physically demanding these sports are. Watching an NFL player struggle to keep up with the training shows you just how tough it really is.

If you are a fan of travel shows and haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it. It's on Monday nights at 9pm on the Travel Channel.

Check it out and enjoy.

Sporcle

If you're asking yourself, "Whats a Sporcle?", you're not the only one.

Can you name all the movies Jim Carrey has been in? How about all the bands that contain the word "Black" in their names? Well then Sporcle is for you.

It is by far the most abused website at SDH, and I am sure once you give it a try, it will be for you too.

Sporcle is an ever growing site that tests your knowledge on random triva that ranges from the obscure to the most basic. But I am warning you, IT IS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!!

Give it a try at: www.sporcle.com

Here's a little hint from a Sporcle Master, don't use up all the good tests in one sitting. New tests are posted daily, but they will run themselves dry pretty quickly.

Anyway, good luck with your Sporcling and when you end up getting fired from your job because of it, don't come crying to me!!

My First Blog...YAY!

Hey guys this is Scott, or "The Charmer" as Josh likes to call me. Josh pretty much summed up my life. So Dam Hot, Poker, Beer pong, and just having fun with everything I do. Also me and
"NASH"- o-nal are starting up our darts, and softball season tonight which I'm very excited about. Just trying to keep busy with activities outside of the restaurant and trying to have a social life is hard, so we find these events very enjoyable when they come around. But I call this place my second home, I love being here and interacting with customers, making new friends, and getting new contacts. We recently just added today a So Dam Hot Wings Challenge if you think your HOT ENOUGH. You get 6 SO DAM HOT WINGS, no beverage is allowed, and no napkins. You must eat everything to the bone and lick your fingers clean. After you finish them you sit and enjoy the So Dam PAIN for 5 minutes. You survive all that and you get a "I SURVIVED THE SO DAM HOT WINGS CHALLENGE!" bumper sticker.
I'll then take a camera picuture of you, print it out, and throw you on the survivors list for all the other daring challengers to see. Thats about it for now guys. Going to go help GP with this order on the grill. I'll be back soon.

The Greatest Show You Didn't Watch!!

A little know fact about me...

After graduating from Fordham University, I worked for Denis Leary's production company Apostle. You might not know the name, but they have produced some great things like the movie "Blow" starring Johnny Depp and the hit show "Rescue Me" starring Denis himself.

Fortunately or unfortunately I didn't work for either of those shows.

If you remember this short lived Comedy Central show then you have a tiny piece of my heart, because you are one of the few that do. Ladies and gentlemen, for your viewing pleasure, I bring you...

Those were the good old days, when I didn't have to clean out the fryers every week! Sadly though, when you're hanging around guys all the time, this kinda stuff really happens.

My Opinion On This Establishment

This isn't even a place of business anymore. Its a spot. If it had its own parking lot, the shit would hit the fan. This place does well enough to keep the lights on, and keep my stomach full, and being that I spend most of my time there, it does its part to keep a kid like me busy.

This restaurant is a lot like a band in its infancy. It has that handful of people that love it more and more each time they listen to the music. In this case, So Dam Hot has more than a handful of people that love the food more and more each time they eat it. And like the band no one knows about, this restaurant will grow, and get bigger, and touch the hearts of more and more people.

Sometimes you feel bummed when that band reaches its full potential and everyone is listening to them. But then again you're happy for them, because they are doing well, and they deserve whats coming to them. So Dam Hot is a ticking time bomb. A kick ass franchise waiting to happen. They are just like the tiny band that keeps getting bigger. This restaurant is constantly putting something new out to keep the customer on the edge of their seat, as well as providing the classic comfort foods America has come to love. I don't want to keep this restaurant to myself, the world should get to enjoy what I've enjoyed.

I've never had so much fun at a restaurant before. It's probably because its more like a second home, with a big family and lots of good cooks. If I ever want to take off and do something, someones got my back. If I ever need advice, I can ask anyone there. I have learned so many valuable lessons that I've lost the need for parents and my education. I basically learned how to run my own business, how to cook, and how to read and follow directions. Most importantly, I learned the value of doing things the right way, the first time.

To conclude my opinion, I would just like to say if you don't believe me, stop by for a bite. Its more than just good food, I promise you.

Getting to Know All About You...

Being that this blog was designed to get you more in tune with SDH, I figure its about time to tell you a little bit more about us. This way you will have some forewarning about the people you are going to read about. We will start from the top and work our way down the chain of command.

Being that I am the self proclaimed "Blog Master", I will selfishly start with me first. I (Joshua) am 27 years old. I am a foodie by heart and have been in and out of the food business for most of my working career. I have done everything from being a bar-back to a bartender, managing stores to managing warehouses, waiting tables to eating at them. Aside from my obvious love for food, I have an uncontrollable desire to help people. I believe that we are only as good as the things that we can offer. I guess that's why I am a sucker for charity work. But more about that in future blogs.

Scott, my co-owner is the charmer. He is one of those guys who is good at everything. That's probably why we hate him. But at least I know I will always be able to beat him in soccer. He wishes he was a professional beer pong player and works hard to hone those skills. One last thing, don't sit down to play poker with him, cause he will take all of your money, and probably your pants too. I don't know why, I just think he'd enjoy it. Hopefully he will add a blog about himself to give you some more info about him.

Next in line are Dan and Kyle. Dan is a teachers assistant by trade, but his true love is food. He is the brain child for a lot of the changes that go on at SDH. He has the luxury of not being at the restaurant 70 hrs a week, so it makes it easier. If you really want to make him happy, tell him you love fresh cut french fries. Kyle, "WORKS" for Con Edison when not hanging out at SDH. I say "WORK" cause lets be serious, they don't really do that much work. Like Scott, Kyle is big into Pong and Poker. Those guys just love their vices.

Continuing down the line you will run into, Mikey AKA Guy and Joe Zaza AKA Guy (Yes it does get confusing!). Mikes the muscle of SDH, or he used to be. He was on the unfortunate end of a rough block during one of our weekly "Old Guys vs Youngins" tackle football game. Let's just say, with age comes wisdom, and a natural talent for football domination. Mikey is recovering well and you can ask to see his scar next time you see him around. He often flaunts it under the horrible look of socks with sandals! Joe Zaza, isn't around much since he left us to go away to college. He is all about bettering himself. As if you could get any better than SDH! Joe's Mr. Athletic and is also pretty much good at anything. You can usually find him hiding under the 15 lbs of hair that he has growing out of his backwards hat. If you get him to cut it all off, I'll hook you up with some free food!

Joey Ginger, aptly named for his red hair is a straggler from Pace University. He is the president of TKE and likes to refer to himself as "The Prez". But we just call him Cuz, cause he's a little Italian boy and he feels like family. If you come by and ask to see Anthony, you will probably receive a puzzled look. Since no one remembers that that is his actual real name. He proudly bares the name "Girl Pants" because he wears some tight, TIGHT pants. He's the rocker of the group and probably the only crew member with any musical talent. When he's not hanging out at SDH he is either crashing cars, seeing flying mattresses, or rocking out with his band Two States. Check 'em out on Myspace and play his songs. He loves that.

Last, but certainly not least you got Chris and Marty, the babies of the bunch. Like Girls Pants, you'll pretty much never hear the name Chris thrown around. We like to call him Twink, a name he received years back for his love of Twinkies. We call him that for other reasons, but you'll have to ask him to explain that. I like to think of Twink as the younger brother I never had. He catches a lot of flack at the restaraunt and does a lot of dirty work when he's around. But he is really a genuinely great kid. And we like having him around. Newest to the crew, Marty is Zaza's little brother. I like to refer to him as Scorcesse, just cause its so fun to say. He's a real rookie and we are still breaking him in. But don't worry, we'll get him well trained soon.

If you made it this far I am impressed and a little embarassed for you. You really need to find something better to do with your time than read this boring blog. And in turn, why am I writing such a long blog in the first place? Anyway, you now have a little insight into the guys you will be reading about here. So you are aptly warned, so I am free and clear of any complaints.

Enjoy your reading and check back frequently for much more enertaining blogs than this!

Make Some Money

You know what they say, "It takes money to make money!". Well we've got an opportunity for you to do just that.

We are looking for willing investors to help us create some of our much needed clothing. If you are a fan of ours, you know that all the shirts we have made to date are high quality material and stylish designs.

We have a lot of great ideas of new merch we want to create, but we can't afford to put up the cash. If you are willing to front the money, we will do all the work. You can be as big or small a part of the process as you want. Its a win win situation. We get all the cool new products we want and you get to make an easy buck.

There are a lot of new clothing ideas that we have tossed around. We need some new shirts, hats, booty shorts, hoodies, etc... You name it, we want it. The more people we get wearing our clothes the better.

Trust me when I say that we won't create anything that we don't think will sell. If you're interested in discussing business, send me at email at jbrand2282@gmail.com or come by the store.

Also, if you have any recommendations for new merch or would like to design something, let me know.

Reading Is Fundamental!

Just wanted to take a second to recommend one of SDH's favorite authors, Neil Strauss. I was lucky enough to have been able to meet him at a NYC book signing he did a few weeks back. He might be one of the most interesting people you will ever meet.

His latest book, "Emergency : This Book Will Save Your Life" was every bit as good as I hoped. Dan and I got hooked on Neil's work after reading "The Game : Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists". Neil's style of writing is easy to read, yet intelligent at the same time. He was a former writer for Rolling Stone Magazine and the NY Times.

If you enjoy reading and you are looking for a new book, we strongly reccomend both. He has also written many other books with the likes of Dave Navarro, Jenna Jameson, and Marilyn Manson to name a few.

Just to give you a quick intro into the books, "Emergency" is about Neil's struggle to deal with the ever collapsing state of the US. Neil realizes that he has very few valuable skills to save him if the system collapses, and like "The Game" shows us Neil's step-by-step transformation into manhood.

"The Game" is a little bit lighter in nature. Neil, an extremely geeky writer, learns and masters the art of the pickup. This book details his transformation from wallflower to the World's Greatest Pickup Artist. It really is a great read, and has a lot of neat tricks for guys who want to learn the ways of the pickup artists.

Read and enjoy!
